Long time, No BLOG!!!

Hello devoted fans!!

I apologize for my absence… Life in the fast lane has been keeping me way too busy, and way too tired to blog at evening’s end!

However, I do want to announce my 90 day vegan challenge! I was meditating a couple days ago, Saturday or Sunday and it came to me to explore the vegan lifestyle for 90 days! Why??? Why VEGAN (pooh!!)??? Why 90 days???? Hast thou lost your senses????

Well, as some of you know, I recently completed a year long course with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was exposed to MANY MANY theories of dietary lifestyle. Several struck cords with me. And I shall be blogging more about them as I explore further!

One thing I found out, is that I am A+ blood type. According to those that think we “Should Eat Right For Our Type”, I naturally gravitate to a vegetarian style of eating. Indeed, I don’t eat meat often, though I NEVER have passed up a paper thin slice of prosciutto! And I do like to celebrate my birthday with a CAJUN RIB EYE at Wollensky’s Grill!  Even as a child, I LOVED MY VEGGIES!!! In my childhood, veggies were usually served with HEAPS of butter! Ahhhh… DAIRY!!!! I was not breastfed, and so I suckled from the teat of a plastic bottle filled with good ol’ vitamin D enriched, ultra-pasturized COW milk… So, this vegetable loving woman also LOVES all that full fat dairy! Indeed, over twenty years ago, during my last physical, it was discovered that I had high cholesterol… no doubt in part to genetics(Grandpa, father and brother all have it too), but also because I think a pint of ice cream is a single serving! However, my HDL was also high balancing out with the LDL… That is presumably good news and makes me an unlikely candidate for heart disease.

So, my general history was that I’d more likely eat veggies anyway, over meats. So why eliminate the dairy? Well… it’s an experiment. I want to see how I feel, if my body changes in any way, and if I am going to coach people about dietary lifestyle, I must KNOW about it! Veganism is HOT HOT HOT and lot’s of people are going VEGAN for myriad reasons. However, and this is a big however but I am over using my CAPS, too many vegans are not eating well! They suffer from a lack of B vitamins, some suffer from a lack of protein… And my biggest complaint is that I don’t think substituting a highly processed product, like TOFURKEY for organic turkey is all that healthy! Now, if you have Karmic reasons, then that’s between you and your HP… But just from a nutritional stand point, less processed is for me!

Why 90 days??? Well, in recovery, 90 days is a generally accepted time frame to make a significant difference in your life. Although I could probably clean out my not-so-terribly dirty system in 30 days, will I really be making a big difference that could be visible, measurable??? Plus, in about 90 days I turn 45, and I am suspecting that this vegan diet will really pump up my health and overall wellness!

What are my biggest challenges??? Milk in my coffee and sweets, especially ice cream. I am not a big fan of milk substitutes in my coffee. Soy, hemp, almond, rice… they all have an aftertaste, none of them impart that lovely rich color into my coffee… Yes, I drink with my eyes!! For today I am using rice milk. However, I also want to say that those milk substitutes have a ton of sodium…. and I am none too thrilled to be adding that into my diet… More about my explorations on high blood pressure another time! As for the ice cream… well, for today, I am happy not having it. I bought lots of fresh seasonal fruits and have them all cut up in the fridge so I can get a natural sugar fix when I want!

More on some vegan staples in the next blog!!
